The University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted 6-0 today to endorse an agreement to cooperate with the City of Lincoln in building a new arena in the historic Haymarket District.
The 16,000-seat West Haymarket arena would serve as the new home for Husker men's and women's basketball.
During a brief business meeting, the Regents also voted 6-0 in for a resolution to urge Lincoln voters to approve construction in a $25 million bond issue vote in May.
Total financing for the project, which will be owned by the city, will total an estimated $344 million. The university will contribute by paying $750,000 annual rent. The arena would be the site for at least 15 home games for men and 15 home games for women each year.
In March, the regents are to consider whether to become part of a joint public agency to develop the building.
