Lincoln voters opened the curtain on a $344 million development west of the Haymarket by saying yes Tuesday to building a new arena to replace Pershing Center.

The arena proposal won 56 percent of the yes vote, according to unofficial results.

Voter turnout in Lancaster County was high for a primary election, at nearly 40 percent.

Lincoln voters have an opportunity on Tuesday that comes along only once every few generations.

They can change the course of history. They can put Lincoln on a new path toward a better future by voting “yes” on the proposed West Haymarket arena.

Mark Fahleson and Vic Covalt don't agree about much.

But the Republican state chairman and the Democratic state chairman believe their city should build the proposed new sports and entertainment arena and develop the West Haymarket.

As the May 11 vote on the proposed Haymarket arena nears, it's worth noting that the project has accomplished something remarkable.

It has brought together traditional rivals in support of the project that will appear on the May 11 ballot.

The unanimity among a broad spectrum of community groups is rare. It provides reassurance that the project provides widespread benefit to the community at large.
